St. Paul, MN
As a nanny working in the Netherlands in 2008, Torey Erin would ride her bicycle to small towns and visit the libraries and museums to study modern painters. She began as a still life painter but quickly transitioned into abstract painting during her years at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her most recent focus is portraiture, which is quite a departure from her previous works. Her work is highly influenced by the people in her life: artists, musicians, performers. Torey currently lives in St. Paul, Minnesota where she finds the diverse art community to be very strong and sometimes oddly under the radar. Long winters trigger a conscious effort to be positive, which for her, includes creating her art. Torey practices a variety of creative endeavors including sculpture, painting, drawing, installation art, commercial design, and art direction.
