Who: Sara Barner
Where: Portland, Oregon
Born and raised in New Jersey, Sara Barner briefly studied architecture before moving to New York City to study metalsmithing and jewelry design at Parsons School of Design. During her last year of college, Barner went to work at a leather shop in the East Village, where she spent four years learning the craft. After a stint at a craft school in the mountains of North Carolina, Barner, a New Yorker of eleven years, decided to move across the country and launch her first collection. Her eponymous line of handmade leather accessories focus on bold, simple shapes and elegant proportions. Combining a sensibility for the contemporary and the nostalgic, the results are visually arresting pieces that will only get better with age.
The entire collection is produced in house in Barner’s Portland studio.
