Los Angeles, CA
Meet Tanya Aguiñiga, a Los Angeles furniture designer by way of Tijuana, Mexico. Her work is informed by border experiences: the interconnectedness of societies, the beauty in struggle and the celebration of culture. Furniture, to Tanya, is a vehicle to translate these emotions into three dimensional objects. They tell stories through color, through touch. These pieces challenge us to reconsider objects we use on a daily basis by exploring the objects’ unseen aspects. Tanya is also heavily involved in community educational and outreach projects, both in Mexico and the U.S. She is a recipient of the United States Artists Fellowship, was named a USA Target Fellow in the field of Crafts and Traditional Arts, and is now working on combining furniture design with community activism.
