Kasuri Patch Boro Tie

Made by Kiriko

This tie is our homage to boro, pieced together from dead-stock vintage kimono and authentic hand-woven hand-dyed Japanese indigo fabric. Meant to be worn a little looser around the neck, it has a rustic look and texture, which makes it the perfect casual tie.

Sewn, pressed and packaged by hand in Portland, Oregon.

  • Origin of Fabric: Japan
  • Reinforced vintage fabric
  • 50-100 year old hand-woven hand-dyed boro
  • Hand sewn in Portland, Oregon
  • Size: 58″x2.5″

Boro fabric (or Japanese indigo) is a handwoven hand-dyed fabric originally used by Japanese peasants, merchants and artisans from the 17th to 19th century. Often patched with pieces of kasuri and kimono, bork truly represents the values of mottainai or too good to waste. Each garment was made with a dedication to quality and craft to ensure that it would last through the generations.

The majority of boro products have holes, color variation and other various signs of wear. These are 50-100 year old antique utilitarian fabrics that have seen many different forms and have been passed down in families through generations.
