With the aim to inspire you to use beautifully handmade objects everyday, Michelle Smith McLaughlin is the artist and designer behind Calyer Ceramics. Originally from Boston, she lives on Calyer Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with her BF Bogey, and a sweet little frog named Teddy. She makes everything herself, by hand or on the wheel. Her work is inspired by natural, organic forms, melty ice cream colors, and cantaloupes. “I love all parts of the creative process from conceptualizing and drawing, to throwing on the wheel and glazing. Every step is interesting and fun to me. It feels like cheating when I'm working in the studio. It's also really satisfying to make something both useful and beautiful.” Michelle also works in photography, and digs alternative processing.
